Thank you to H-E-B for supporting our Senior Nutrition Program

The Senior Nutrition Program provides congregate and home-delivered meals to eligible seniors in Bee, Brooks, Jim Wells, and San Patricio Counties. Meals are approved by a registered dietitian and then prepared to meet 1/3 of the Recommended Dietary Allowance to ensure good health.

Senior Congregate Meals

The Senior Congregate Meals Program provides services through a network of 8 senior congregate sites. The program promotes socialization, good nutrition, and helps seniors maintain their independence. Round-trip transportation is available to congregate sites, grocery stores, medical appointments, and/or leisure trips. At the Senior Congregate sites, activities focus on the health and well-being of seniors.  Social and recreational activities vary by center, but may include activities such as bingo, chair exercises, dominoes, line-dancing, and sewing.  Voluntary contributions are encouraged to defray costs and reduce wait-list. Suggested amount is $1.00 per day.

Senior Meals on Wheels

The Senior Meals on Wheels Program delivers nourishing meals daily to seniors who are no longer able to shop and cook for themselves while allowing them to live independently in their own home. When meals are delivered, a CACOST staff person checks in with the senior to monitor their safety and well-being.

The following persons qualify for the Senior Congregate Meals Program:

  • Persons 60 years and older
  • Spouses of elderly participants, regardless of age
  • A disabled resident of a housing facility where congregate meals are provided
  • Disabled persons living with a person participating in the  meals program
  • Volunteers at the nutrition site in accordance with OAA standards

The following persons qualify for the Senior Meals on Wheels Program:

  • 60 years of age or older
  • spouse, regardless of age, of a 60+ participant
  •  disabled, regardless of age, and live with a home delivered meal participant 60 years of age or older

An in home assessment is conducted to verify eligibility.

To apply for the program, contact any of the local Senior Congregate sites in Jim Wells, Brooks, and San Patricio Counties or call 361-664-0099

Meals on Wheels 5k

On March 28, 2020, CACOST’s fifth annual 5K to support the Meals on Wheels Program was expected to take place, but was unfortunately canceled due to the necessary safety precautions taken as a result of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. We want to thank all of the registrants and sponsors for their donations made to the program even though CACOST was unable to host the event this year.

Community Support

CACOST relies on local county governments and private partners and donors for the essential resources to continue the Senior Nutrition Program.
