The Head Start Birth to Five Program creates the foundation for children to become school ready. The areas of development and learning that define our School Readiness Goals for children under five years of age are established in the Head Start Child Development Early Learning Framework. The School Readiness Goals are critical in aligning our curriculum, program planning and the monitoring of children’s ongoing progress.
CACOST strongly believes the parent is the first and most important teacher for children; therefore, each child’s success demands a strong collaboration between the parent, the family and the community.
Expectant Mothers Program
The program is designed to help expectant mothers receive prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum recovery information. Expectant mothers are paired with a home visitor support specialist whom they meet with regularly to help them prepare for motherhood. When the child reaches of age, they are given priority when enrolling in Early Head Start.
Abriendo Puertas/ Opening Doors
Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors is a 10-lesson parenting curriculum designed by and for parents with children ages 0-5 to promote child school readiness and family well-being. The curriculum is available in Spanish and English and addresses best practices in brain development, early literacy, bilingualism, health, civic engagement, parent leadership, and planning for family success.
