Senior Service Program – Title III

What does the program do?
Provides nutrition services, including home-delivered meals or group meals served at Senior Centers and Nutrition Sites.

Who benefits from the program?
Area residents 60 years of age or older.

What areas/counties are covered by this program?
11 centers in 3 counties -Brooks, Jim Wells and San Patricio

When does a person qualify for the program?
Persons 60 years and older; the spouse of an elderly participant, regardless of age. A disabled resident of a housing facility where congregate meals are provided; Disabled and lives with the person participating in the meals program; a volunteer at the nutrition site in accordance with OAA standards.

How does an individual enroll in the program?
Contact any local Senior Service Center in Jim Wells, Brooks and San Patricio Counties or the Director of Senior Service at 361-664-0145 ext. 226 in Alice, Texas. Documentation required: Identification.

SERVICES AVAILABLE:
SENIOR CENTERS – Encourage a sense of community among older citizens.
NUTRITION – Nourishing meals, served at nutrition sites or delivered to the home bound elderly.
TRANSPORTATION – To senior centers, doctor’s appointments, shopping, recreational activities
HEALTH SCREENING – Physical monitoring services such as blood pressure and diabetes checkups.
INFORMATION AND REFERRAL – Assistance in obtaining information about state or local services.
RECREATION – Activities such as dancing, parties, computer games, card games.
PHYSICAL FITNESS – Daily exercise activities.

Activities center on the health and well being of seniors at the Senior Service Centers. Social activities vary from center to center.

Voluntary contributions are encouraged to defray costs and expand services. Suggested amount is $1.00.

Hours vary at the local senior centers. Most centers are open only 5 hours daily, Monday thru Friday.
